University of Michigan Health-Sparrow (UofM Health-Sparrow) has collaborated closely with Progressive Companies to advance its mission of providing quality, compassionate care to every patient, every time. With a focus on putting people at the heart of their work, Progressive Companies' health and wellness team aligns with the health system's commitment to its patients, neighbors, and community.
Together, for over a decade, we've tackled unique challenges faced by the healthcare sector, including supply chain issues and staff shortages, to deliver exceptional healthcare environments where people can thrive. We’ve collaborated on small to large projects from facility renovations to imaging projects to pharmacy upgrades, demonstrating a deep understanding of UofM Health-Sparrow's operational needs.
Notably, the Okemos Medical Office Building, completed in 2022, seamlessly integrates UofM Health-Sparrow Medical Group physician practices, an outpatient imaging lab, and a freestanding emergency center. Collaborating with partners IMEG, Jon Huddy at Huddy Healthcare Solutions, and Foresight Management for LEED certification, the project aimed to elevate the health system's presence in East Lansing while prioritizing accessibility for the older population and nearby assisted living centers.
The team successfully delivered a "one-stop" location, featuring an emergency department with rapid assessment and trauma rooms designed for diverse healthcare needs. The project’s layout accommodates six providers, boasting 18 exam rooms. The facility's mechanical system incorporates energy monitoring and usage, ensuring optimal efficiency and reduced downtimes for maintenance. By implementing efficient irrigation systems and plumbing fixtures, the center reduced indoor water use by 23% and outdoor water consumption by 51%. The facility also achieved a remarkable 16% energy cost savings, demonstrating that 24/7 healthcare operations can be both efficient and environmentally friendly.
Offering X-ray, CT scan, and ultrasound capabilities, this cutting-edge facility not only meets community needs but also aligns with sustainability goals, earning a LEED Silver certification in May 2024. This achievement is particularly significant as it is only the second healthcare project in Michigan to be certified under this version of LEED and the sole emergency center to receive this distinction.
