Blue Cloud Pediatric Surgery Center* is undertaking two significant projects in Madison Heights, MI, and Cincinnati, OH, to expand their reach and enhance access to dental and oral surgery for pediatric and special needs patients.

In Madison Heights, the project involved a comprehensive revitalization of the surgical services area in a decommissioned hospital. This 13,000 square-foot facility, completed in May 2024 at a cost of $2.4 million, operationalized two existing operating rooms, six preoperative bays, six post-operative bays, and all essential services within the surgical suite. The renovation aimed to meet current standards and secure AAAHC Deemed Status accreditation, ensuring patient safety and compliance with payor requirements. Progressive Companies provided architecture, interior design, and engineering MEP services on the project.

The 6,000 square-foot Cincinnati Children’s Surgery Center involves a complete gut renovation of a facility originally built in 1993 as a primary care physician practice. The team has addressed challenges posed by limited square footage and an existing wood structure, to offer a facility with a comprehensive preoperative experience, including six preoperative bays, two fully equipped operating rooms, six post-anesthesia care (PACU) bays, and in-house sterile processing. Patients will benefit from a private discharge exit leading to a covered, landscaped walkway, while staff amenities include a break room with daylight windows, a locker room with individual changing areas equipped with showers, and a separate entrance for added privacy. This project is expected to be completed by March 2025 at a cost of $2.6 million, well under the initial $3.6 million initial estimate, and includes services in architecture, MEP and civil engineering, and landscape architecture.
