Network180 Behavioral Health Crisis Center

Progressive Companies, in partnership with Trinity Health Grand Rapids and Network180, is addressing critical gaps in behavioral health care in Kent County, Michigan. Recognizing the fragmented services and underinvestment in mental health, Network180 initiated the Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC) with a Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). This 8,600-square-foot, $3.5 million facility, completed in 2024, aims to stabilize behavioral health crises within 24 hours, reducing reliance on emergency departments and correctional facilities.

The project secured funding through Michigan Legislature grants, emphasizing safety, therapeutic environments, and patient-centered care. Evidence-based design includes calming colors, natural light, and flexible layouts.

Key considerations included accessibility, privacy, and seamless healthcare integration. Clinical spaces and efficient workflows are tailored for crisis response, supported by specialized staffing trained in trauma-informed care.

This project underscores the importance of immediate access, de-escalation, and continuity of care. Despite regulatory and renovation challenges, it sets a new standard for crisis intervention, blending innovation and patient-focused design to support community mental health services.
